A few weeks back, HMD Global Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas had hinted at the possibility of the Nokia X6 making its way to select markets outside China. The first concrete evidence suggesting the existence of a global variant of the smartphone has now surfaced online out of Taiwan. Alleged CAD renders of the Nokia 5.1 Plus have also appeared online. The Nokia 5.1 Plus, as the name clearly suggests, is expected to be positioned between the Nokia 5.1 and the Nokia X6.
Nokia X6: Global Variant Gets Certified by Taiwan’s NCC
The Nokia X6 variant carrying the model number TA-1103 has received certification from the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan. For reference, the Nokia X6 variant launched in China carries the model number TA-1099. Quite clearly, a different variant of the Nokia X6 receiving certification in Taiwan suggests HMD Global is, in fact, getting ready to launch the mid-range Android smartphone in at least a few markets outside China soon. The TA-1103 variant certified by Taiwan’s NCC was reportedly spotted on the website of a Bluetooth certification agency as well.
Nokia X6: Specifications, Features
Announced last month, the Nokia X6 sports a 5.8-inch IPS display with 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio thanks to the notch at the top. It runs on Qualcomm’s mid-range Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz with an Adreno 509 GPU. The smartphone comes with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable onboard storage. In the camera department, Nokia X6 sports a 16MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the rear with phase detection autofocus and AI technology to help users capture great photos. While the RGB 16MP sensor is coupled with an f/2.0 aperture, the secondary 5MP monochrome sensor is coupled with an f/2.2 aperture. For selfies, the smartphone includes a 16MP snapper on the front.
Connectivity-wise, the Nokia X6 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, 4G VoLTE, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and a USB Type-C port. Keeping the lights on is a 3060mAh capacity non-removable battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 support. The smartphone also comes with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. Color options include Black, Blue, and White.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Leaked Renders Reveal a Notched Display and Dual Cameras
It looks like HMD Global plans to launch a “Plus” variant of the Nokia 5.1 sometime later this year. Renders of the smartphone based on factory CAD drawings have leaked online, along with a 360-degree video by Tiger Mobiles in collaboration with @OnLeaks. These renders reveal a notch at the top of the display, similar to the Nokia X6. Another key difference compared to the standard Nokia 5.1 is a dual-camera setup at the rear. We can also see a fingerprint sensor below the dual-camera setup. The 3.5mm headphone jack is positioned at the top. At the bottom of the handset, we can see a USB Type-C port. In terms of physical size, the leak reveals the smartphone will measure 149.5 x 71.9 x 8mm.
Nokia 5.1 Plus: Rumored Specifications, Features
The Nokia 5.1 Plus is rumored to feature a 5.7-inch sized display, likely featuring the same 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution as the Nokia X6. Rumors suggest the handset will be powered by a mid-range MediaTek Helio P23 chipset, an upgrade over the Helio P18 chip that powers the Nokia 5.1. As mentioned above, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will also have a dual-camera setup on the back, although the resolution of the two sensors is not known currently. As for the software, we expect the Nokia 5.1 Plus to debut with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. Similar to its siblings, the Nokia 5.1 Plus will be a part of the Android One program as well.
