Japan to take initiative on AI weapons talks

Foreign Minister Taro Kono says Japan will take an active role in the international debate on the use of weapons controlled by artificial intelligence.

Kono was speaking to reporters on Friday, ahead of a meeting of experts at the UN European headquarters in Geneva later this month to discuss AI weapons.

Some critics say that for humanitarian reasons, there should be tight restrictions on the development and use of autonomous weapons.
